How to Easily Prep Your Legs and Feet for Summer

Summer’s here (at last) and that means skirts and sandal season! But perhaps your legs and feet need a little prep before you bare them? After all, they’ve been covered up by trousers, tights and boots for months on end. Here’s our easy guide to getting your legs and feet ready for summer. Follow these seven steps from our founder Tracy, to prep your legs and feet to put a spring in your step this summer!

Step 1: Exfoliate Your Legs and Feet

You exfoliate your face, right? Did you know your legs and feet need the same treatment? Sloughing away dead skin cells not only makes skin look instantly brighter, it also boots circulation. It also helps you avoid those dreaded ingrown hairs.

I love using Hydrea London Bamboo Gentle Exfoliating Mitt on my legs. It couldn’t be easier: just apply shower gel to the mitt and get scrubbing. The mitt creates lots of luxurious lather and gently polishes your skin, making it look instantly more radiant.

I use Cowshed Revive Foot Scrub on my feet: the natural black volcanic sand exfoliates dry skin, leaving them soft and smooth. It’s infused with essential oils, so it smells amazing. Meanwhile, the avocado oil and soothing aloe vera moisturise and soothe for pedi-ready feet.

Step 2: Say ‘Bye to Unwanted Hair

Of course, hair removal is optional, but I love that smooth hair-free feeling myself, especially over summer when my legs are on show. I use a Venus Comfortglide Razor, which delivers a brilliantly smooth shave. Using Lumea Prestige IPL Laser hair removal device after shaving has dramatically cut down regrowth, I’m so happy to have discovered it. It’s such a time saver, and well worth the investment for me.

Step 3: Moisturise Your Legs

Don’t be tempted to skip moisturiser: it’s essential to replenish moisture lost when after hair removal. Our knees and heels are especially prone to dryness, so they need an extra moisture boost, especially if you’re fake tanning, to avoid orange knees! CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion is my day to day choice, but I also love L’Occitane’s Ultra-Rich Body Cream for a treat.

Step 4: Fake a Summer Glow

If you’re feeling a little pale and interesting, why not smooth on some fake tan for a golden glow? Self-tanning products are so natural-looking and easy to use now. Even if you’ve had a bad experience in the past and gone a bit orange, it’s well worth trying again.

You could go for a gradual tan moisturiser or Dove DermaSpa Summer Revived Body Lotion. I find it gives a natural colour with no hint of self-tan smell. Plus, it’s very reasonably priced. I also like to add Tan-Lux Illuminating Self-Tan Drops to my normal body lotion, to customise my tanned look. It gives me a lovely confidence boost without looking at all fake.

Just don’t forget to wash your hands after applying any fake tan to avoid tell-tale signs.

Step 5: Get Pedi Perfection

If I’m feeling fancy I might go for a professional pedicure, but mostly, I DIY my toenails. My favourite nail polish is from Nails Inc, and I love the summer trend of fruity pastels. I’m currently wearing Just Avoca-Do It Plant Power Vegan Nail Polish. Their Coral Street Neon Nail Polish is a key colour this season, and it looks perfect on toenails for summer.

Step 6: Protect Your Skin with Sun Lotion

Sun lotion is also an essential step to protect your summer skin, so please don’t skip this one! Being naturally pale, I need a high SPF so currently La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Sun Protection Spray SPF 50+. I swear by it to keep my skin protected throughout summer.

Step 7: Adorn Yourself with Personalised Jewellery

Now your legs and feet are perfectly prepped for summer, why not set them off with some sparkle? We think every part of your body deserves to be adorned in something beautiful. Anklets are a hot trend this summer, and these are our best sellers, with good reason:

Our stunning Gold Sequin Sun Anklet brings a touch of sun, even on cloudy days. Handmade in gold plated solid silver, it features a classic clasp fastener and 10 tiny shimmering sequins cast with a sun-inspired design.

This Engraved Silver Name Bar Anklet is chic, modern and minimal, and we can personalise it for you with a name or initials. It’s adjustable, with a lobster claw clasp to make it easy to put on and take off.

Why not adorn your ankle with your birthstone? Our Birthstone Anklets are available in Sterling Silver or Gold Plated, in birthstones for every month of the year.
